A MULIM'S WELOME ADDRESS FOR THE

SEARCHERS OF PEACE OF MIND

By Shamoon Hussain

The Islam, as defined by Prophet Muhammad is the worship of God [Allah (swt)] and taking care of His (swt) creation; including human beings, animals and environment. Hence, we the Muslims realize that it is our religious duty to help you attain peace of mind and highest potential by maintaining appropriate balance between the rights and duties.

We welcome you and would like you to join hands with us in praising and thanking The One and The Only God [Allah, similar to the Aramaic word Alaha] who made arrangement to sustain and nourish our bodies as well as soul. It is very important to realize that we all share the same God given abundant and innumerable bounties; for example air and water for our very physical existence and the following sources of Divine Guidance needed for the nourishment and enhancement of our soul and spirituality:

*God's appointed Divine Guides from Adam onwards including Abraham,  Jacob, Joseph, Mosses, Jesus and Muhammad (P.B.U.T.) and their God appointed successors.                            Their function was to familiarize us with the realities of life after the death and to teach us God's Message that acts as the Constitution to enable us to lead a happy and successful                   life in this world and the hereafter.

*The revealed books/ scriptures, such as the Holy Torah, Holy Bible and Holy, Quran  the last final and unaltered Message of God.

*Built-in conscience. It is like an eye which cannot see without the light of Divine Guides and the Holy revealed Book / Scriptures to see.

The imbalance in meeting the physical and spiritual demands is at the roots of the human despair, lack of peace of mind, inequality, injustice , suffering and moral decay.  Imam Ali (AS) advice for leading a successful life in both the worlds is to live in this world as if you are living in the world permanently and to be ready for the death and accountability in the hereafter, as if you are dying right now. Thus, the way to obtain the best of both the worlds is to know the Divine Guides and obey them. Therefore, God identified them by their miracles and His revealed Books / Scriptures. The Holy Quran confirmed the Prophet-hood of all the prophets from Adam to Muhammad (P.B.U.T.)  including Mosses and Jesus. Please note that the Holy Quran's verses 29 & 30 of the 19th Chapter (Q: 19:29 & 30) named after Virgin Mary that states as follows about the miraculous birth of Jesus as follows:

"She (Mary) pointed to him (Jesus) . They (Jews) said: "How can we speak to a child in the cradle". He (Jesus) said: "Verily I am God's Servant ; He (God) has given me a Book (Bible) and made me a prophet. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.)  living miracle is Allah (SWT) unaltered revealed book Holy Quran. The Holy Qur'an confirmed the fact that previous prophets, especially Jesus, prophesized the coming of and prophet-hood of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). The Holy Quran also clarifies that as God created Jesus without a father He created Adam without both the parents. Based upon this fact there is a need to revisit the correctness of the concept of trinity. The Holy Quran states in the Verse 20 of Chapter 6 (Q:6:20) and Q:48:29 that the People of The Book (Jews and Christians) know Prophet Muhammad (SA) as closely and vividly as they know their own children and that Torah and Bible contain statements about Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.).

WHO ARE THE MUSLIMS:

The following dual meanings of the word Islam reflect the mission of Islam and a glimpse of a Muslim's private and public life:

                * Total and unconditional submission to the will of Allah (SWT)

                * Peace based upon justice for all.

The Islamic greeting known as "Salam" also guarantees safety and security to the one who is greeted. The reduction or absence of the feeling of safety and security, especially under current circumstances, is indicative of the presence of one of the following:

*The one who says "Salam" undermines or lacks the spirit of Islam

*The one who is greeted with & "Salam" is under the influence of fear mongering sources.

It is a fact that based upon their understanding the followers of a religion form different sects and ideologies. Muslims also belong to different sects and mainly into Shia and Sunni schools. However, the common denominator is the belief that the sources of Islamic teachings are the Holy Quran and the Narrations (Ahadith) of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). The Shia School relies on God's appointed Prophet Muhammad's (P.B.U.H.) infallible progeny called Aal-e Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) while the Sunni School relies on the Prophet Muhammad's (P.B.U.H.) companions (As-Haab-e Rasool) for making sure the authenticity of Prophet Muhammad's (P.B.U.H.) narrations and based upon them the interpretation of the Holy Quran. However, both the Shia and Sunni Muslims agree on the core values; such as, Oneness of Allah (SWT), Life After Death, Holy Quran as Allah (SWT) revealed and unaltered Book, Kaaba as the symbolic House of Allah, Prophet-hood of all the prophets especially of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) as the last prophet and the need for the successors of Prophet Muhammad who have different titles, such as, Khalifa, Imam, Olil '.

There are about 1.6 billion Muslims and constitute 23% of the world population. There is no country in the world where Muslims don't live. In contrast to the media reports of Sunni - Shia rift, they have lived happily and peacefully together for centuries and constitute about 99.999% of the Muslim population. A negligible minority of less than one in 100,000 Muslims belong to the category classified by God Himself in the 63rd chapter of the Holy Qur'an as "hypocrites";.

According to chapters 62 and 63 of the Quran some of the companions (Ashaabe Rasool) were also hypocrites. The Quran identified their  characteristics and about their plots to misrepresent and defame Islam. Abu Sufiyan, the father of Mawiyyah and the grandfather of Yazid, a long-time staunch enemy of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) and Islam, members of his Bani Ummayya clan and his associates had a dream to defame the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.)  and change the Islamic teachings . Charles Gibson quoted in his book Decline and Fall of Roman Empire: "Abu Sufyan's opposition to Islam was fierce and relentless, his conversion to Islam was reluctant and tardy, his staying a Muslim was convenient and opportunistic.” Mawiyyah, as the governor of Syria and later on as the self- proclaimed Caliph of Muslims of the world, with full control over the treasury of Muslims and unquestionable control over the media and government agencies, tried his best to make his father's dream a reality. In other words Mawiyyah was the father of misnomer "radical Islam"; and terrorism in the name of Islam.

On the other hand, the immaculate and infallible members of Prophet Muhammad's family with their unimaginable sweat and blood saved the authentic teachings of Islam from being hijacked and earned the hearts and minds of those who know them . The unimaginable sacrifices of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) grandson Imam Husain and his relatives and friends in the ultimate battle of Karbala as prophesized by Prophet Muhammad between Imam Husain, the embodiment of true Islamic teachings and Yazid, the embodiment of hypocrisy and deceit, is a source of keeping the true teachings of Islam alive and a source of guidance and courage to the champions and heroes of human rights all over the world.
